Shipping Methods
There are various shipping methods that are available and can be edited on this page.
What we'll cover in this Article
Shipping Methods
To access your shipping methods, go to Config>Order Settings>Shipping Methods from your admin menu.
To create a new shipping method, make a selection from the drop down menu on the left and click on the "Add" icon.
By Item Count
In the above example, we have set up a shipping method which charges by Item Count; which basically means that your customers will be charged according to the number of items they have in their cart.
So in the example, it reads as follows:
- If the Item count is between 0 & 4, your customers will be charged $5.00
- If the Item count is between 5 & 9, your customers will be charged $15.00
- If the Item count is 10 or more, your customers will be charged $25.00
By Order Total
In the above example, we have set up a shipping method which charges by Order Total; which basically means that your customers will be charged according to the order total they have in their cart.
So in the example, it reads as follows:
- If the subtotal is between 25 & 49.99, your customers will be charged $10.99
- If the subtotal is between 50 & 99.99, your customers will be charged $8.99
- If the subtotal is 100 or more, your customers will be charged $5.99
This shipping method also affords you the opportunity to import a spreadsheet with your shipping rates. The only column headings you will need are: subtotal & charge
To import prices in bulk, simply click on the drop down arrow, locate and import your file.
By Weight
In the above example, we have set up a shipping method which charges by weight; which basically means that your customers will be charged according to how heavy the items they have in their cart are.
So in the example, it reads as follows:
- If the weight is between 0 & 4.99, your customers will be charged $2.99
- If the weight is between 5 & 9.99, your customers will be charged $6.99
- If the weight is between 10 & 49.99, your customers will be charged $15.99
- If the weight is 50 or more, your customers will be charged $5.99
This shipping method also affords you the opportunity to import a spreadsheet with your shipping rates. The only column headings you will need are: weight & charge
To import prices in bulk, simply click on the drop down arrow, locate and import your file.
Per Item
In the above example, we have set up a shipping method which charges per item; which basically means that your customers will be charged for each item they have in their cart.
So in the example, it reads as follows:
- If the items are between 0 & 9, your customers will be charged $2.99 per item
- If the items are between 10 & 19, your customers will be charged $8.99 per item
- If the items are 20 or more, your customers will be charged $12.99 per item
Per Order
In the above example, we have set up a shipping method which charges per order; which basically means that your customers will be charged a specified amount per order.
So in the example: customers will be charged 30 for each order the place on your site.
Custom Shipping UPS-Shippable
The first part (If Order includes ONLY UPS-Shippable items) sets shipping for smaller/UPS shippable items.
The second part (If Order includes ANY Non-UPS items) of the shipping method is for large heavy freight items.
In the example above, if an order only has smaller/UPS shippable items, shipping is free if the order is over $99.99 and $9.99 if not. If the order includes any large heavy/freight items, each item would add 19% of the item's selling price to the shipping total. The minimum freight shipping charge is $99.99. UPS shippiable items would not be charged shipping.
Please NOTE: If you have custom product on your site, ensure that UPS shippable items are marked as UPS Shippable otherwise they will pick up freight shipping charges.
Handling Fee
From this section of the admin, you will have the opportunity to charge your customers a "handling fee" which is basically a charge for expenses required to handle and/or pack and ship an item (boxes, labels, tape, bubble wrap, packing peanuts etc). You can either select to charge per item or per order.
The Default To First Shipping Method checkbox will default the shipping method on new orders placed to the first method in the list.
Shipping Method Filtering
You can use the three available options: Countries/Regions/Postal Codes to restrict your shipping method.
Ship To Countries
In this section, you can select the countries that your shipping method is available in.
1.) This box contains the countries that you choose to make the shipping method available to.
2.) This box is for the countries that you do NOT want this method available to. In the illustration below Canada, Mexico, Spain & United Kingdom are excluded.
The arrows in the middle are what you will use to move the countries to the appropriate side.
You can add countries by navigating to: Config > Settings > Countries in the admin.
Ship To Regions
Like with the previous option, you can select the regions that your shipping method is available in.
1.) This box contains the regions that you choose to make the shipping method available to. In the illustration below Alabama, Florida & Georgia are included.
2.) This box is for the regions that you do NOT what this method available to.
The arrows in the middle are what you will use to move the countries to the appropriate side.
Ship to Postal Codes
The ship to postal codes option works just the opposite. The addresses that contain the zip codes that you include in this area are the only ones where the shipping method will apply.
Zip Codes should be separated by commas like in the illustration below. Any special characters (:/;-*) will be removed when you click save.
Partial Zip Codes; for example 3033 to cover 30330,30331,30332,etc. are NOT acceptable.
Roles
The Group/Role filter at the bottom of the shipping edit page will allow you to be selective on what type of customer sees the shipping method you have set up.
In the example below, ONLY members of the Wholesale Customers group will be able to see this shipping method.
If you want the shipping method available to all users, you would simply select the Visible to All Users option.

Custom Shipping Methods
If you are not able to accomplish what you're looking for with the above options, you'll need what's called a custom shipping method.
Please NOTE: Custom shipping methods are NOT editable by you and will require us to make any changes.
If a Custom Shipping Method is what you need, please submit a ticket via our support site that defines in detail how exactly you would like the custom shipping method to work so that we may be able to provide an estimate for the work.
